この住宅は、大和平野の西部、香芝の地に立地しており、
小規模住宅地の入口近くの間口が広く、奥行の狭い敷地に建っている。
そのため、住宅は街に対して開かれる部分が大きくなる建物となった。
そこで、この面が住宅の持つ生活感という日常を隠す壁のような、非日常的なファサードとして提案している。
そうすることで、生活空間としての住宅を、建築作品としての住宅に変換する操作を行った。
ファサードには、間口いっぱいに伸びた鋼板製の細長い庇と、「SOLIDO」と呼ばれるセメントの素材感を生かした無垢で無機質な建築素材製品を外壁に採用することとしている。
庇と外壁の重なりによるファサードが、私としての日常の生活空間を、公としての非日常の作品空間に切り替える装置となっている。
内部の日常空間には、大きな吹抜け空間を設けた。
南側からの自然光を室内に取り込むことにより、家族の日常を明るく豊かな生活空間にしている。
また、子供部屋のスペースは必要最小限の大きさとし、吹き抜けへ向けて細長い勉強机を設けることによって子供たちをひきこもらせず、家族の空間に引き込むことにより、家族としての一体感を生む工夫も行っている。

 

This house stands in Kashiba, on the western side of the Yamato Plain, on a site near the entrance to a small residential neighborhood with a wide frontage and shallow depth. As a result, the building necessarily presents a broad openness toward the street. We therefore proposed making this street-facing side a non-everyday façade—a kind of wall that veils the lived-in feel of daily life. In doing so, we sought to transform the dwelling as a place of living into a dwelling as an architectural work.

Across the full width of the frontage, a slender steel-plate canopy is paired with an exterior wall clad in “SOLIDO,” a cement-based material that expresses a raw, inorganic texture. The layering of the canopy and wall creates a façade that functions as a threshold device, switching the private, everyday living space to a public, extraordinary realm of architectural expression.

Inside the everyday living areas, we introduced a large double-height void. By drawing natural light from the south deep into the interior, it brightens and enriches the family’s daily life. The children’s rooms are kept to the minimum necessary size, and a long, narrow study desk faces the void; this avoids isolating the children and instead draws them into the shared family space, fostering a sense of togetherness.
